The goal is to change youth workers view on migrants and how to be the instigators of change in civil society in order to integrate migrants through our NGO’s activities by involving them. Having taken into account that there are many NGO’s who offer support and assistance to newly arrived migrants, the need for further care and assistance once these are free to live in our communities is scarce, we see young migrants going round in streets lost with plenty of time on their hands, doing nothing with a possibility that their talents will remain hidden and they just slip into oblivion away from the system, society. It is with this view in mind that we identified this need, were active NGO’s can be the point of reference to start bringing youth migrants involved in society by being active in NGO’s activities. Considering that many youth workers do not have this experience in working with migrants, we fell the need of this project to be able to share gained knowledge, identify weaknesses, learn and obtain information of good practices through the 3 planned activities to further empower youth workers with the new skills required to adapt and accept young migrants in their NGO’s. The reality we are living in today’s society brings us face to face with this new changing society. It is important to raise awareness, but we must also be the catalyst of change through empowering our youth workers to understand this issue and identify working solutions and applications for full integration.
A continuation study visit in St Marten Dutch will be followed in June.
